For most visitors, one boat snorkeling day plus one land day is a balanced start. If you only have time for one reef trip, Samadai is the shorter of the two Dolphin House days. A Luxor day trip suits travelers who do not mind a 04:30 start and a late return.

Groups for organized open-water snorkeling are limited to 12 guests per guide, and a briefing about the environment comes before you enter the water. Abu Dabbab, Marsa Mubarak, Samadai, Sataya and Hamata Island are the usual names.

Camel safaris in Wadi el Gemal are among the excursions on offer, though that does not mean every route runs every day. For off-road travel in Egypt, UK travel advice requires a qualified guide and a permit from the Ministry of the Interior, and it warns against driving at night outside towns and resorts. Book desert trips only with an operator that handles the permit, and do not head into the desert on your own.
